Our Mission

Artist's rendering, Victorian Home Museum gardens, 1860s.

The members, volunteers, directors and staff of the St. Clair County Historical Society take great pride in what they do and who they are. They are part of a legacy of preservation and education that reach back more than 100 years.

The St. Clair County Historical Society  is dedicated to education, history and artifact preservation and community outreach.

Education involves a dynamic process of teaching and learning. The Society teaches by utilizing its collections, museums and people to tell the story of St. Clair County. We learn by interacting with the communities that we serve and the historical field at large to refine and deepen our understanding of the past.

It is impossible to fully understand the past without tangible evidence of it. The Society preserves by cataloguing, maintaining, expanding and promoting our collection of historical artifacts and offering our robust library to our members and history researchers and historians from around the world.

Our success depends upon a deep and meaningful connect to St. Clair County communities. The Society engages in outreach by raising awareness of our mission and the activities we use to spread our goals and the message of the importance of our collective history as a service to our communities.
